BIM DETAILER - Construction Site Experience Required

Location: Austin, TX

Salary Range: $75,000 - $96,000

Work Hours: Between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled BIM Detailer with strong Construction Site experience to support the full lifecycle of mechanical, process piping, and plumbing projects. This role is central to converting real-world field conditions into accurate, coordinated 3D models that drive installation success. Your hands-on understanding of site operations, sequencing, and constructability will directly elevate quality, efficiency, and collaboration across all project phases.

Key Responsibilities

Construction-Focused Responsibilities

  • Apply on-site field experience to ensure models accurately reflect real installation constraints, safety considerations, and construction best practices.
  • Collaborate closely with foremen, PMs, fabrication shops, and field crews to validate design feasibility and resolve constructability issues before they reach the jobsite.
  • Participate in on-site coordination meetings, reinforcing field-awareness in layout, routing, and sequencing decisions.
  • Communicate proactively with construction teams to adjust models based on site conditions, change orders, or field-identified conflicts.

Detailing & Modeling

  • Lead detailing for Mechanical Piping, Process Piping, and/or Plumbing systems.
  • Optimize system layout, reduce fitting usage, and identify potential design flaws early.
  • Model and coordinate in 3D using Revit and CAD tools with accuracy rooted in field knowledge.
  • Generate layout point files for Trimble and Topcon to support field layout teams.

Documentation & Coordination

  • Interpret contract documents, including plans, specifications, and submittals.
  • Maintain and manage model uploads, logs, RFIs, and all related documentation.
  • Support fellow detailers and provide guidance grounded in field experience.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities for greater installation efficiency, reduced risk, and improved workflow.
  • Contribute to Virtual Construction Standards and best practices leveraging real jobsite understanding.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of relevant field experience on construction sites (Mechanical, Process Piping, or Plumbing).
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Hands-on background in:
    • Mechanical Piping
    • Process Piping
    • Plumbing trades

Technical Proficiency

  • Autodesk Revit, Fabrication, Navisworks Manage, BIM 360 Glue & Docs
  • Bluebeam Revu, BOX, Smartsheet
  • Google Workspace (Docs, Gmail, Sheets, Forms)
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
  • Applicable local, state, and international building codes

Preferred Skills (Not Required)

  • Dynamo, Forge, Python, Revit API, C#, VB.net, F#
  • Trade school education
  • Spanish language proficiency
